Science Club is up and running...

Huapai Science Club 2014

May 2014
Science Club has begun for interested students at HDS.   It is based on a science scheme run by the Science Awards Trust based out of Christchurch for interested NZ schools.  Here is a link to the Science Awards Trust Website.

Sixteen students in years 3 to 6 have opted into this science activity based club offered during lunch playtime on Tuesdays.
All students have a science based activity sheet to work through at home, once they have completed an activity they can bring their work into school to share with the other students.
Sharing others work has really sparked the students' interest and motivated them to explore.

This term we have begun looking at Life Processes...
We have opted to look into plant based processes and growth, starting with beans and grass.
We have seen how seeds germinate and discussed what a seed requires to germinate:  sun, water, food, etc
Many students have gone off and begun their own explorations based on discussions in science club.

HDS Science Club

Science club began in term two with approximately 20 students in years 3 to 6.  Many of these students are in year three and very eager to learn a little about the science in the world around them.
We meet in room 6 on a Tuesday after sit down eating time to share the science activity challenges we have been working on along with any science queries we may have.
As of Week 7, term 3 we will be meeting in room 5 on a Tuesday after sit down eating time.
New students are always welcome.  :)
