Science Challenges Year 5-6
So far the year 5-6 students involved in science club have completed the following science based activity challenges...
Material World:
*collect several different types of kitchen utensils and predict which will float and which will not; test your predictions and display your results.
*list the steps needed to change an ice cube into steam; what apparatus would you need and what measurements would you take; discuss your ideas and carry out your investigation.
Physical World:
*using LEGO, design and create a bridge at least 30cm long that is strong enough to support a 500g mass (butter) at its centre when spanning a 25cm gap between two desks
*make a simple working periscope; show how it works, make a drawing of its construction and label all parts
Living World:
*research, draw and describe 8 plants that have been used as medicines, they could be pre-European, herbal or medicinal.
*draw a detailed picture of an animal in its own environment, include a predator and a food source. Draw a diagram to show your animal in the food chain
These are just some of the challenges that await.
